My great grandmother, Helen Olieta VanNest, grew up in Mendham New Nersey. The daughter of Elmer Clayton VanNest and Helen "Nellie" Freeman. She had a brother, Henry Clayton "Uncle Clay", and a sister, Gertrude Freeman "Aunt Vanity".
Their father, Elmer Clayton VanNest, died in 1907 at the age of 42. Their mother, Helen "Nellie" Freeman remarried in 1914. Her second husband was John M. Hoffman another resident of Mendham.
